SIDE A
Z.D.F. - SMASH
Montreal's newest punk group featuring members of Omegas, Slobs and Naughty Girls, Z.D.F. existed for about 15 minutes. You get to hear them because you paid hard dollars for this cassette, baby.
BOGUS CAUSE - UNITE
Another exclusive mixtape track by the kings of Stigma worship.
OMEGAS - N.Y. TERMINATOR
Here's a demo recording of the titletrack on the 4 song "N.Y. Terminator" E.P. out soon on Painkiller Records.
NIGHT BIRDS - ONE EYE
Jersey Shore's best punk band got together and recorded a song just for this comp. You'll know it when you hear it re-recorded on their upcoming LP on Grave Mistake.
NO PROBLEM - I DON'T WANT IT
A sick track off the upcoming LP from these Edmonton punks, recorded by Jonah Falco.
BAD FORM - DANCE FOR THE DEVIL
This is an early Bad Form song recorded live on WNYU sometime around 2000. You might recognize Avi from Silk Flowers. Tim played bass in Canon in the 90's, and currently is in San Francisco with Hollow Mirrors. Bad Form sounded like if the Cramps got beat up by GG Allin on acid.
FOUND MY DIRECTION - GIVE AND GET
You already checked out RECKLESS AGGRESSION and LIFE'S FATE, so here's another Aussie slam jam from FMD, a straight edge powerhouse from the late '90s. If you like Confront and Floorpunch, you'll like this.
NOT AFRAID - GETTING BEHIND
Here's a new E.P. cut from Belgium's newest hardcores. Featuring guys from TRUE COLORS, DEAD STOP and JUSTICE, they're for the people, they stand for them.
VIOLENT SOLUTIONS - EMOTIONS
From the rare "High Heels Are Gestapo Boots" compilation on Dead Stop Records, VIOLENT SOLUTIONS was a one man project by a 16 year-old kid named Jojo who played drums in TURN THE SCREW (see Side B) and currently in VOGUE. He also invented the "stage dive", which is when he would get onto the stage during shows, and jump face first onto the stage itself.
H.G.M. - UNTAMED YOUTH
Here's a choice cut from Halifax's teen punk heroes! Recorded in 1998, these guys were proto joy boys - real recognize real.
RESTLESS YOUTH - BLACK AND WHITE
Here's the unreleased, unpolished version of a song by a band that not enough people listened to. One of two songs from the Wolfblood sessions recorded for a compilation that never happened. The session captures my favorite era of the band, right between their earlier, crazy Bad Brains punk songs and their later, deeper Stooges-esque punk stylings. The other song from the session, "For What" is on a compilation that came with Hustler fanzine. Good luck finding that one.
WASTED TIME - HAS BEEN
Southern brothers of the Slam Nation, Wasted Time have been partying it up for years and they're still sick. Here they are live at Gallery 5, RVA 5.22.10. Did you know that Mark is the Virginia Beach State Champion of Partying? Yep. Fact.
NOMOS - NOTHING/ NOTHING
Speaking of partying frontmen, here's an exclusive track from Brooklyn unit, the Nomos. This might just be my favorite recording by them. It sounds gritty and dirty like their live shows, AND it features the band telling Nate how to play the cover. I bet that guy was wasted.
ANTI-SOCIAL - LIFE
Yet another mixtape exclusive! ANTI-SOCIAL was a 1988 project featuring the singer of BAD TRIP, a guy from INSIDE OUT NYC, and two guys from IN YOUR FACE. Just kidding, this is Boner Hogan's band from 1998.
MAD MEN - MULTIMIX
Made just for this mixtape, a collage of slam by the master of disaster and fine cuisine, Joni Falconi.
DAS BOOT PARTY - STRAIGHT WHITE MALE
An exclusive anthem for the oppressed underclass of montreal punk.
SLOBS - NO MORE
Another mixtape exclusive from this OG Joy Boy group, now without retainer but tougher than ever, the SLOBS.
KARL ST-PIERRE - SUEDEHEAD
Since LOOK BEYOND didn't have time to mix their demo properly in time for this mixtape, we tracked down some of Big Karl's solo work so we could really show him in all his glory.
SIDE B
TAYLOR HOODLUM STEVENSON - LADIES OF THE NIGHT
Hoodlum is the man. Once a teenage punk fronting H.G.M. (see side A), then an axeman in Abyssed (Venom meets Charged G.B.H.), now recording his solo shit. This song sounds like NIN covering Motley Crue. Type of Negative covering Kiss. Alice Cooper as a cyborg. I don't know, but it's badass. Written and recorded for this mixtape only!
ULTRATHIN - DON'T MESS
These guys are Hoodlum's roommates, so they're on next. They sound like Flipper covering Fang in a basement made out of drugs. From their 7" on Badmaster Records.
WORD ON THE STREET - STRENGTH INSIDE
Here's one quick blast of Halifax slam, from their demo. Get it!
NO POLICY - CONFUSION, FRUSTRATION, DEPRESSION
Here's ten of the most obscure seconds of Montreal hardcore, from their 1984 demo.
THE VERNEUKERS - N.I.D.K.
Louie P and Spoiler pay homage to BLOEDFOEF, KANT NOCH WAL and HEIBEL with this crushing Belg-Punk anthem, available only on this mixtape!
RENEGADES - YOU
This shit is straight from the Hogan Brother's Chateauguay basement in 1996. A 14 year-old Hoagie on vocals, and the legendary Boner Hogan on drums - he has the bandname tattooed across his gut. Joy Boy Style, for sure.
CREEM - I HATE YOU
New Brooklyn hardcore featuring members of Nomos, Backtrack and Natural Law. Here's a hit from their new single on Katurga Works.
REARRANGED - RELEASE
Here are our boys from Russia, also known to die-hards as the Moscomegas, bringing you a cut from their brand new s/t E.P.
LOOK BEYOND - GIVE UP
Montreal Straight Edge in your face, baby! Here's a rough mix track from their upcoming second demo feat. Big Karl.
TURN THE SCREW - SICK
T.T.S. were belgian teenagers that got into hardcore through DEAD STOP and formed a band right away. Here's a forgotten hit off their second E.P. from 2004.
PRUNE BOYS - LOUDHOUSE
One time a couple of Joy Boys got wasted in 404 and recorded the official Loudhouse anthem. Though none of the members live at the Loudhouse, we all got our slam on in there, so fuck it: an ode the Montreal's best punk house. And beer.
BAREBONES - SEE THROUGH BOOBY TRAP
Check out an exlusive jam from Bareboner hailing from our favorite place on earth: Pittsfield, Mass! Featuring members of WASTE MANAGEMENT, FREE SPIRIT, RIVAL MOB, STEP FORWARD, MIND ERASER, RAMPAGE, and probably a couple more.
FULL FLEDGED- I CAN'T STAND IT
Full Fledged were the kind of band that could only exist before Al Gore invented the internet. They were 4 teenaged skinheads from North Jersey, which included the drummer from No Contest, Ben. They came out of nowhere, somehow knew all of the best hardcore, and existed for all but a couple of months before they split. This is from their only recording, a demo. Ben puts it best: "It's what happens when all you have access to is a crate of 7"s from the early and mid 80s from your older brothers I suppose. No computers, no YouTube, no communication with other kids in the scene. Isolated and strong." Of course the guy who wound up having the mp3s of this band's demo is none other than Ben Pepin from Sherbrooke, QC.
NO CONTEST- WHAT YOU'VE BECOME
No Contest were one of the best bands out of northern New Jersey in the mid to late 90's. They were a bunch of wackos with big mouths and bad attitudes. When everyone wanted to sound like Youth of Today, they wanted to sound like Warzone. This song is from their "Where Do We Go From Here" 7". I was present when the vocals were recorded, and in fact got to the studio earlier than the rest of the folks who were doing back-ups. Singer Jesse was going to have me record the "guest vocal" part in the middle originally promised to Chuck Daily (now tattoo artist of note in Jersey City). Chuck indeed showed up, so I didn't sing that part, but I made sure to scream longer than everyone else on the last backing vocal so I got my fuckin' solo. -Dan Skibra
TOTAL TRASH - NO FREEDOM
Another mixtape-only cut from a bunch of snotty Toronto teenagers feat. a horny Michael Cera on guitar.
ANGST - ART ATTACK
Not the ANGST from the MRR comp, but a shortlived Belgian band featured on the infamous "High Heels Are Gestapo Boots" compilation. Featuring Stief and Lieven Lahaye!
LINDA J. POLLEY - CANADA THE SHAME
Linda is an internationally known psychic speaker who channels John Lennon. He writes new songs in The Afterlife, and Linda records them. You can find more info on
www.voicesfromspirit.com
WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT THE FOLLOWING BANDS DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE STUDIO IN TIME: FREE SPIRIT, ECSTASY, SUSPECT, BONER HOGAN, CRAZY SPIRIT, SUBLIMINAL DECAY, SULLY & THE SHENANIGANS, WOLF BLITZER, MASKED AVENGERS, SEMINAL DEATH, ELIMINATOR, AMERICA'S YOUTH.
